Doggie News : Movie Night Thursday!;upcoming PV park events;BYOB kudos;mowing

Hey everybody,
Take Your Dog to A Movie night is this Thursday (5/21)! Come out to see and be seen at the fashion show, pick up a goodie bag from our sponsor City Pets (first 50 dogs), then kick back on a blanket to enjoy the 'Truth About Cats and Dogs' on the (somewhat) big screen! The Humane Society of Greater KC, Midwest Pug Rescue, and Halfway Home pet adoptions (the new privatized KCMO shelter) will all be out with adoptable dogs, lit, and donation jars. We would also encourage people to bring items to help Halfway Home get their new operation rolling, such as bleach, small/medium crates, dog and cat toys, food, and collars, etc. See their website for a full list of needed items.

If you are thinking of getting another dog, this is a great opportunity to start the adoption process now with one of the above organizations and be able to (possibly) have a full 'meet and greet' at the dp Thursday. Good opportunity to see how your current dogs and the prospect(s) relate in an open, fenced area.

Couple of upcoming Penn Valley Park events to keep in mind- Rockfest will be back at the park on 5/30 (Saturday only this year), resulting in the blocking off of the 29th/Wyandotte area that day. The Show Me Pride Festival will also be in the same area 6/6 and 6/7. Parking at Off Broadway is recommended on those days.
------------------------------------------------
Thanks to everyone,

both for using recycled bags first, bringing recycled bags and putting them in the IKEA dispensers, and bringing your own and not using dp bags at all. We are now again greatly reducing bought bag usage through recycled bag use. Thanks again!

In case anyone has wondered why the grass is so long, Parks has reduced their mowing schedules across the city due to budget cuts. Although there are mechanisms to privately fund additional mowing, DIG is not in a financial situation presently to realistically fund mowing. If anybody wants to contribute to increase mowing, contact the list.

See everybody at the park!

About DIG

The Dogpark Improvement Group (DIG) is a volunteer, non-profit organization composed of individuals coming together to raise funds to improve the Penn Valley Dogpark in Kansas City, MO. The group was started by MaryBeth Norsworthy in June of 2006

DIG planted eight maple trees in the park in late Fall of 2006, and has been instrumental in working with city government to improve the dogpark. A DIG PIAC request was approved in 2007 to provide $155,000 for park expansion and a parking lot.

DIG uses an e-mail list to communicate with members.

The only requirement for DIG membership is an in-person / e-mailed request to be a member, along with agreeing to work constructively in the group and respect the opinions of others. Please e-mail digannouncements@gmail.com to join!

As of May 2009, the group has 191 members.
